Easy Saturday

ISHIBETSU ELEMENTARY

Woke up early today for a 発表会 (kinda like a school festival to showcase students' plays and work) at Ishibetsu Elementary. Just visited them like 2 weeks ago. It's a small school with just a couple dozens kids. But they're great and really affectionate and always so cute.

MOHEJI

After the event ended, went to Moheji River, supposedly famous in the area for sighting salmon swimming up the river and laying their eggs before dying and getting eaten by scavenger sea birds. Thus is the course of nature...

Anyway, heard there used to be so many of them that the river changes color but apparently the numbers have decreased significantly. I've visited several times but haven't never saw more than a dozen of them. Or maybe it's just not meant to be. Still, it's a nice view there. Moheji and Ishibetsu are right by the coast and full of hills and trees, now in oranges and yellows.

WEST COAST

Along the coastal road to Moheji and Ishibetsu, is a restaurant cafe right by the sea, called West Coast. Stomach started growling and needed a leak. So, decided to check out the place before it closes for winter.

As expected, it's a very nice place, cosily decorated. Tall windows line the side of the cafe facing the sea, offering an unobstructed view of the sea. Even the toilet is very nicely done up. First look at the menu, I was kinda disappointed. Looked like nothing special and you do pay for the view. Ordered some cheese rice ball thing and coffee. Surprisingly, the food turned out to be not bad actually.

It was like how I always imagined it to be. Sitting by the sea, with a cup of coffee, nice food, nice scenery. Ahhhh....

Round onigiri (rice balls) in baked cheese crust, with tomato topping and nice salad, and of course, coffee in a unique blue porcelain cup
